Starlight Children's Foundation

Starlight Children's Foundation brightens the lives of seriously and terminally ill children by granting wishes and providing hospital entertainment.  In its first year Starlight helped just 4 children.  This year, Starlight will help 500,000 children throughout the UK with wishes and hospital entertainment.  Starlight wishes involve the child's whole family, strengthening family bonds at a very difficult time.  Children are given a fun decision to make at a time when most decisions need to be made for them. 

A wish remains a positive focus throughout long periods of treatment or recuperation and is often remembered as the turning point in the child's illness.  Wishes are limited only by the child's imagination and have included a little boy who was a fireman for the day and a little girl who baked a cake for HM The Queen.  Popular wishes include who are made into mascots for football teams and family holidays to Lapland to meet the real Father Christmas.

Starlight currently has over 200 children waiting for wishes, with requests ranging from a bedroom makeover to the chance to meet Girls Aloud.  As fast as Starlight grants wishes more seriously ill children are referred to Starlight.  Starlight also creates fun and excitement in every hospital and hospice throughout the UK.  Sick children go to Starlight parties, laugh their way through pantomimes, go out on Starlight escapes, play games or watch films on the Starlight Fun Centre, and enjoy the toys and puzzles of the Starlight Distraction Box.
